The paper considers the problems of interpreting galvanic-skin response changes that can be due to patient’s reactions to external factors as well as due to spontaneous activity. It suggests a method for evaluating the patient’s emotional state by assessing the galvanic-skin response at rest. The method is based on identifying and analyzing three most specific levels of spontaneous activity: quiescence, average background excitement, high background excitement.
